How to Help

Page history last edited by Leo Babauta 15 years, 7 months ago

If you'd like to get involved with this Zen Habits wiki, your help is more than welcome. Here's what you can do:

  • Need a Wordpress plugin where readers can mark comments as spam, and ideally unmark comments that were mistakenly marked spam.
  • If you see spam or abuse on this wiki, please feel free to edit and delete. This would be a huge help.
  • Add to the ToDo page, or start taking them up yourself.
  • If you see errors (like typos, facts, etc.), please feel free to edit, or if a page has restricted access, let me know about the typo and I'll fix it.
  • Please add your Zen Habits suggestions, FeatureRequests for this wiki, and Comments as you see fit. It's how this thing will get better.
  • If I've started a page on this wiki that needs expanding, feel free to make contributions! I might not accept all contributions, but if they're well done I doubt I'll reject them completely.
  • Please contribute to the discussion, especially when it comes to any of the Projects that are discussed here, or Zen Habits decisions that are discussed.
  • Add your questions to any FAQs, such as the Radical Transparency FAQ. I will try to answer them.
  • I'd love it if you helped spread the word about this wiki in any way.
  • If you're so inspired, please implement some form of Radical Transparency in your organization, or encourage others to do so!

There's a WP plugin called Comment Karma (http://www.cyber-knowledge.net/blog/2006/10/15/wordpress-plugin-rate-your-comments-comment-karma/) that allows site visitors to vote for the comments they found useful. Not only will this help people identify - and, therefore, ignore - spam comments, it will also help highlight the comments they found useful.

I haven't used the plugin myself, nor have I investigated alternative plugins, but this approach can help fight spam and promote useful comments without having visitors login.

@Haider: Thanks! I've seen a couple of plugins like this before but can't seem to find them at the moment. Comment Karma looks like it might not work with the latest versions of WP. If anyone finds a similar plugin, please let me know!

Leo,

I found http://www.intensedebate.com/ which might work I haven't used it but you can try it on that site. Seem like it might meet your needs.

Very nice, Jared! It might be more than I need, but I'll look into how it can be customized. Thanks again for your help!

I use DISQUS on my blog. I like it mainly because I can reply to comments via email and even reply to a comment and say "SPAM" (via email) and it removes it from my site. I think you might like it though because it has both comment based and person based karma. When you mouse over a person's name, it shows you not just the comments on my blog - but every comment they have left on *any* DISQUS enabled blog.

I tried a number of comment systems and plugins (much to the chagrin of my early readers, heh) and DISQUS came out as far and away the winner.

That said, it isn't perfect - one thing I didn't like was it dofollowed comments and links by default, so I edited the plugin to take that out. It was an easy fix, not sure if they have fixed this in the normal release (but if you decide to go that route, I'd be happy to provide you with my version).

Leo, Zen Habits is getting a bit complicated. Maybe because you are working on several projects, but it is difficult for me to keep track.

You don't have permission to comment on this page.
